Shaping the Future of Drug Discovery with Organ-on-Chip Technology
Partner with us to provide an alternative to animal testing and change research forever.
About Us
We are a research team in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG), at the University of Oxford.
Our goal is to address the current over-reliance on animal testing in all research, but in particular within pharmaceutical drug development.
In doing so, we want to revolutionise healthcare through faster, cheaper, and safer drug development and the realisation of personalised medicine.
To achieve this, we are developing the next generation of organ-on-chip platforms designed to better capture the complexities of human biology in basic and industrial research.
Our current prototype aims to bridge the gap between preclinical studies and clinical outcomes.
Innovation
As an early-stage innovation, we are actively engaging with pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations and academic researchers to gather feedback, understand market needs, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Discovery
In support of these activities, we are participating in Innovate UK’s ICURe Programme, your insights will play a vital role in shaping a solution that advances scientific discovery, addresses ethical concerns and meets regulatory requirements.
Challenges
Drug discovery and pharmaceutical research face critical challenges:
Limitations of Animal Models
Animal models often fail to predict human responses accurately.
Predictive Failures
A lack of predictivity in current preclinical models (including NAMs) result in significant failure.
Pressures for New Testing Methods
Ethical and regulatory pressures demand new testing methods.
Time and Demands
Preclinical research takes significant time and resources which, continue to rise.
Uncertainty
The relevance of current models to human health is often uncertain.
Regulatory Challenges
Current NAMs fail to produce datasets that meet regulatory requirements.
Barriers to Advanced Technology
Lack of practical expertise creates barriers to adopting advanced technologies.
Our Solution
Our organ-on-chip prototype is designed to address these challenges by offering a human-relevant, ethical, and scalable alternative to animal testing. While the technology is still in development, it promises to provide:
More predictive and reliable data for drug discovery.
Alignment with emerging regulatory frameworks.
The potential for cost-effective and scalable solutions.

FAQs
What makes organ-on-chip technology different from animal testing?
It provides a testbed that replicates human tissue and organ functions in the lab, offering more physiologically relevant data compared to animal models.
Is this technology available for purchase?
Not yet. We are in the prototype stage and are currently focused on gathering feedback and refining the technology before going to market.
How can I provide feedback?
You can register your interest to join our feedback network. We will share more details about the prototype and opportunities for input.
Will this technology align with regulatory requirements?
We are developing the platform with regulatory compliance in mind and are seeking insights on specific needs from industry professionals and regulatory bodies.
